And just like that, just-released New York Jets receiver Brandon Marshall – who will always be remembered fondly for tugging on Ryan Fitzpatrick’s beard – has reached an agreement with the New York Giants on a two-year deal worth $12 million, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. While tumbling/rebuilding Gang Green saved $7.5 million in cap space with their release, the Giants drastically upgraded their offense and Eli manning’s chances at a comeback season with their addition. This also looks strongly like the Giants plan to abandon the run game, while putting together two of the most hot-button NFL receivers on the gridiron today in Odell Beckham Jr. and Marshall.
Two seasons ago, Marshall – attained for only a fifth-round pick from the Chicago Bears – set the Jets franchise record for catches (109) and receiving yards (1,502) in a season. He also tied for the NFL lead with 14 catching touchdowns. 2016 was a stumble back, however, as the six-time Pro Bowler finished the injury-riddled, quarterback-deficient season with 59 catches, 788 yards and only three touchdowns.
While the NFL will likely never see this epic beard tug again, Odell and the Giants should be pumped. In the meantime, NFL fans of any other team may be reacting as so..
